Middle East Technical University (METU) is a state university founded in 1956. The university offers a very diverse curriculum in both graduate and undergraduate to about 27,000 students. The students may attend one semester or a year-round at METU as special students or exchange students. METU has two terms of which the first term begins in the last week of September to the middle of January while the second term begins in the middle of February to mid-June. METU offers summer school with regular courses and also an international summer school for international students. All the undergraduate programs in the engineering are evaluated by ABET and accredited by Engineering Accreditation commission of ABET. METU is one of the most competitive universities with over 1/30f the 1000 applications having the highest scores. Over 40% of METU's students choose to further their studies with postgraduate degrees.
